Meet the Team at Reverence Recovery

The name Reverence Recovery reflects a core truth: that meaningful psychological recovery requires deep respect — reverence — for a person’s lived experience. Each person we work with is not merely a set of symptoms, but an individual shaped by struggle, resilience, and complexity.

To hold someone’s pain with reverence is to recognise their internal battles, and to respond with dignity — even when life feels fractured.

Recovery, in our view, is not about perfection or erasing the past. It’s about making space for change through connection, knowledge, and insight. It’s about helping clients move toward a more liveable relationship with themselves — one that honours their story and supports growth at their own pace.

Through reverence, we aim to create a therapeutic space where shame softens, self-understanding deepens, and recovery becomes possible.

Meet Dr Guil

Dr Guillaume Walters-du Plooy is a clinical psychologist and the founder of Reverence Recovery. He holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology, and his work is informed by over 15 years of experience across clinical, academic, and research settings. Guil specialises in the treatment of eating disorders, and currently serves as the Clinical Program Coordinator for the Eating Disorders Program at Hollywood Ramsay Clinic (Perth, WA). He also has extensive experience treating other co-occurring mental health concerns, and offers psychological support for a range of differing presentations and diagnoses.

Guil’s therapeutic approach is collaborative and person-centred. He integrates evidence-based models with clinical intuition and warmth, respecting the layered realities of each client’s history and present struggles. Whether a client is navigating early-stage concerns or rebuilding after years of illness, Guil offers a steady, compassionate presence grounded in years of clinical skill.

Guil has contributed to the field through teaching, supervision, and academic research. His doctoral work focused on complex and treatment resistant cases of eating disorders, and he strives to continually invest himself in helping those afflicted by these types of conditions.

Guil founded Reverence Recovery late in 2024, focussing on establishing a psychology practice where clients feel seen, are gently challenged, and meaningfully supported. He believes that recovery is not about perfection or quick fixes, but about creating a more liveable relationship with one’s self, body, and life. Guil’s goal is to offer care that is rigorous, respectful, and humanising.
