Reverence Recovery recognises that eating disorders are complex, and no two journeys look the same. Whether you’re dealing with restrictive eating, binge eating, or any combination of disordered behaviours, Guil has expertise to guide you through recovery with compassion and clarity.
You are more than just a diagnosis. Reverence Recovery meets you where you are, with compassion, professionalism, and unwavering support.
Guil’s tailored approach helps you break free from the cycle of disordered eating and cultivate a healthier relationship with food and yourself.
He’ll help you develop a foundation of self-compassion and resilience so you can navigate your challenges.
While Guil has a special interest in eating disorders, he also provides care for a wide range of mental health conditions. These services include:
In 2019, the Commonwealth Government pledged $4 million for the provision of an eating disorders centre in Perth.
Eating disorder hospital admissions in Western Australia jumped 165% from 2010 to 2018.
In 2023, there were an estimated 1,273 deaths nationally due to eating disorders.
Less than one in three (30%) of those with eating disorders seek help.
In recent months, a national conversation led by Assistant Minister Emma McBride highlighted that many people with lived experience continue to report that access to care is patchy, inconsistent, difficult to navigate, and at times detrimental.
An estimated 13% of young people will experience an eating disorder by the age of 20, and almost half have participated in eating disorders behaviours.
Therapy sessions consist of frequent consultations, with a focus on nutritional rehabilitation, psychoeducation, life skills training, and addressing any personal psychological aspects that warrant attention. Multiple professionals can form part of such treatment, including a psychologist, psychiatrist, dietitian and your GP in Perth.
If the need exists, we welcome the input of family members and significant others who wish to contribute to your treatment. Although the boundaries of your treatment need to be prioritised, the interaction with these family members during the course of treatment is discussed with you, and managed in a professional and ethical manner. Whether family members only attend the initial session, or remain part of the ongoing intervention itself, our approach is adaptive to what you and your family need.
As a major urban center, Perth is subject to societal pressures related to appearance and body image, driven by media and cultural norms. These pressures, particularly among young people and adolescents, contribute to body dissatisfaction and a higher risk of disordered eating.
Perth’s diverse cultural community includes varying attitudes toward food and body image. While this diversity can foster positive relationships, certain cultural expectations or stigmas may unintentionally encourage unhealthy eating behaviors or negative self-perception.
Perth provides a range of healthcare services, including specialized eating disorder clinics and support programs. However, challenges such as long wait times, the cost of treatment, and the stigma associated with seeking help can act as barriers. Additionally, those living in outer suburbs or rural areas surrounding Perth may experience limited access to specialist services.
Our therapeutic approach is a holistic person-centered approach grounded in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and incorporates elements from other treatment modalities as needed.
In short, this approach tries to be welcoming and flexible — we meet you where you are in the Perth area!
$250 per session — 55 minutes
** Medicare rebate available with a valid Mental Health Care Plan, or valid Eating Disorder Care Plan (approx. $141 rebate from Medicare).
Over one million Australians struggle with eating disorder, a challenge that likely touches the lives of many of us, either through someone we love or through our own experiences with disordered eating and body image issues, while finding access to care can be tough. That’s why Reverence Recovery is here for you, offering accessible and compassionate care near your location in Perth.

An eating disorder can lead to abnormal eating habits, characterized by consuming excessive or insufficient amounts of food that do not align with the body’s nutritional requirements for optimal health. Over time, the habit becomes stronger than your will to control it, potentially influenced by distorted beliefs and societal pressures related to body image, beauty, and weight.
Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, binge eating or body image issues can be linked to experience of depression, anxiety, confusion and emotional torment. Often with eating disorders there can be an internal battle between the part of you that wants to recover and the part that doesn’t.
The factors that lead to the development of an eating disorder are complex. They involve a range of biological, psychological and other mental health conditions, there may be different causes, such as:
Apprehension toward treatment is quite common. Introducing changes and working towards meaningful growth can, for some, feel incredibly daunting.
We welcome those with apprehension to still attend an appointment and relay their fears to the therapist. Treatment is individualised to your own circumstances, specific challenges, and unique person.
Remember, part of treatment can also be focussed on helping you overcome the contemplation phase. For some, this can take quite some time. By becoming recovery focussed, you move onto the beginnings of actual eating disorders recovery.
Anyone with an eating disorders concern is welcome to book and attend the services offered at Reverence Recovery.
Whether you are seeking support for yourself, or needing help with your adolescent who is struggling, we will assess your treatment needs and goals to tailor a treatment plan that best suits you.
No, you don’t need a referral. Self-referrals are also accepted.
However, if you wish to make use of Medicare benefits during your treatment, a valid Mental Healthcare Plan, or valid Eating Disorders Care Plan is required (both obtained from your GP).
For our support group, we do ask that you attend your GP prior to attending, to complete our GP Referrer form (see Support Group page).
The approximate rebates received from Medicare for both these services are:
Individual therapy – $142
Group therapy – $35
Reverence Recovery only conducts therapy that uses the medium of language/discussion. We do not offer services for young children where play-style therapy is needed.
If your adolescent can hold an adult-style conversation, which means they can voice their opinions and feelings adequately through discussion, then they are welcome to attend.
Yes, most certainly.
Family members and carers can be great agents in bolstering treatment outcomes, and we welcome their input if this aligns with your wishes and needs.
In cases where parents wish to be included in their adolescent’s treatment, we discuss the boundaries of confidentiality at the outset of treatment, with a priority focus on the index client.
It is understandable that parents are concerned about the wellbeing of their children. In the spirit of trying to aid families, and guide parents to assist their child better, feedback may provided when necessary, but only with the consent of the index client.
